2007 Armstrong Commercial Environmental Brochure Now Available


Armstrong™ Commercial Flooring introduces its new environmental brochure which highlights products, programs and company milestones which underscore Armstrong’s heritage of sustainability.

“Green operations and products aren’t new for us, but they continue to be the focus of our development efforts,” explains Kent Clauson, manager, Commercial Marketing. “First, we work to systematically reduce the environmental footprint of our operations, year after year. Second, we provide customers with continually better choices in products and services and share the knowledge customers need to make those sound choices to improve the environmental profiles of buildings. In responsibility toward the environment, as in all of our business practices, we are committed to progressively raising the standards for our industry.”

Armstrong products highlighted in the brochure include those made from renewable materials, abundant natural resources and those that contain recycled content.  All Armstrong™ Commercial Resilient Floors, are certified by the FloorScore™ program for low-emitting building materials and contribute to LEED® credits. 

The brochure highlights green milestones for Armstrong’s commercial operations, including:

1909

Recycling of corkscrap into Armstrong linoleum begins.

1993

One of the first UV-cured coatings for commercial flooring is introduced.  Resulting low-maintenance flooring reduces environmental impact; requires less water, energy and chemicals.

1997

Holmsund, Sweden & and Delmenhorst, Germany: Commercial Flooring Plants Certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management Specifications.

1999

Ceiling Products introduces a North American recycling program. In 2000 the program receives Pennsylvania Governor’s Award For Environmental Excellence.

1999

Commercial Flooring integrates the use of recycled content into VCT manufacture, diverting more than seven million pounds of waste from landfills each year and sparing the use of equivalent virgin materials. More than 63 million pounds of waste are diverted during the next nine years.

2001

Gifford Pinchot Award for environmental initiatives is awarded to Wood Products for tree planting, sustainable forest conservation, and environmental education.

2006

Armstrong receives FloorScore™ certification on all its resilient flooring.  FloorScore certifies that all products comply with CA 01350 for Indoor Air Quality.  Contributes to LEED® credit EQ 4.3 for low emitting materials.

2006

UV Coatings are applied to all Commercial Sheet Flooring products.

2007

Commercial Flooring introduces a new composition tile category — BioBased Tile™ with BioStride™ polymer, made with a rapidly renewable plant source.

BioBased Tile and the many other flooring solutions Armstrong offers now comprise one of the largest selections of green flooring products in the industry.  The brochure also provides a reference chart that identifies Armstrong commercial floor products that can contribute or comply with LEED credits.
